This year's Kingston Classic 10k run will have a speial event.
2 Kingston Natives, Billy Marecka and Robert Brinkman will be competing against each other in a race that starts at Academy Green and finishes at LaLimas Barbershop.
This .25 mile race is among 2 local rivals that started years ago when they were employed at Jacks Magazines (AKA Dirty Jacks) on Broadway in Midtown Kingston. Brinkman told us of the rivalry via telephone from his hotel suite at the Bellagio, Las Vegas Nevada.
"Hey I'm just here resting up and eating good to prepare for this race next month. Billy was always a cheater and this time he can't. I remember when Jack had us oil wrestling each other in the storage room. Billy would always wait till I was tired and then break out his move called the Middle Leg Twist. It hurt so bad I would always give up and after Uncle Jack would take him to Eddie's for free burgers. This messed me up for years physically and mentally. I cant wait for this race because is an opportunity to get revenge."
We also had a chance to speak to Billy in person from the Kingston Plaza. "Hey, Jacks rules were anything goes. It's too bad he still whines about it. Next month I will show everyone who the real athlete is." The Krancelo Sports founder abbruptly ended our interview short by jumping in his car mentioning that he had a $240.00 outstanding balance with Savonas Plaza Pizza and they were close on his tail.
Because of the well known rival among these coworkers many local businesses have stepped up to offer prizes. For the winner as follows.
A 1/2 pint of hot weiner sauce from Dallas Hot Weiners. Dozen Dunkin Munchkins, Dunkin Donuts.
3 Egg Rolls, Engs Restaurant. 3 Buttered hard Rolls, Fox Hall Deli.
2 piece tenders, Kennedy Fried Chicken.
A cup of Pea Soup,Stadium Diner.
Guest judge and master of ceremonies will be Kingstons Greatest Athlete, Ernie Ghenti.
Hope you all can make it.
