Couple charged for scamming church by pretending their children have cancer

Police say that a husband and wife are now facing numerous charges after pretending their two children were ill in order to deceive and horribly manipulate the members of a church out of more than $650, 000.
Durham Regional Police say the couple who were the guardians of the two innocent children. Made the people of the church believe the young doe eyed kids were suffering from a serious physically debilitating and expensive disease, cancer.
The source for Police were two members from the local church who called into the local station after suspecting that they had been tricked and played in to paying for this sickness that doesn't even exist, after noticing that the supposedly ill children exhibited no real symptoms that could not have been easily faked.
Police say that the people of the church paid over $650,000 in cash, groceries, rent, a purchase of a motor vehicle and other financial support over a two year span.
The 60 year old man and 50 year old women from Oshawa, Ontario are charged with multiple charges. Three counts of fraud over $5,000, three counts of false pretences over $5,000, and two counts of possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000.

The investigators say that the couple went so far to convince the public that they dressed up the kids in hospital gowns, covered their heads with bandages and attached fake intravenous connections to the children's arms to convince people of the severity of the apparent illness.
Police also said that the man and women convinced a local elementary school board that the children needed special equipment and services to attend their elementary school classes.
