Earlier this month, scientists created scientific names for multiple dog breeds, including the Golden Retriever, German Shepard, Beagle, Doberman, Shih Tzu, Shiba Inu, and Pembroke Corgi among others. Animal activists have been pushing for this change, arguing that it would not be appropriate to classify man's best friend as simply Canis lupus familiaris when there are 344 various breeds. In July, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, likened to the idea and requested a group of scientists to create new names. These names were completed in September, and are now being adopted by many counties globally. Reports suggest that in the first month of the release, the most popular breeds in countries have gained up to 70 usage by dog owners, officially setting a new trend. In the United States, dogs like the Labrador retriever are now being referred to as the Caninous Labradorius Retreverous ,or Labbor Retrever, and in Japan, the Shiba Inu as the Caninous Shibanous Inuater, or the Shibber. Each name is used universally for the breeds, regardless of sex or age. These names mark an advancement in human appreciation for the dog, and is seen to have a lasting impact on our view of their names as companions.
