Lake Benton-MN Sunday, a 10 Ft. Bull Shark was spotted on a boat 400 yards offshore near the Stoney Point Recreation and Campground area.
Connie Ferguson and her family drove down to Stoney Point Recreation and Campground Area from Flandreau to go on a fishing trip. But, after a few hours of fishing, her son Jacob noticed a dorsal fin in the water and at first he thought it was a piece of drift wood, but then the fin was moving and he can notice that it was a shark. Caleb's dad Brett took a picture of the shark and posted it on Facebook. The shark circled the boat for a few minutes and then disappeared into the lake. The shark was spotted yesterday at 9:45 am.
Brian Briar, National Resources Department in Marshall MN says, "Bull Sharks are known to be able to swim between salt and fresh water. Although they are able to swim in fresh water typically they are only found in tropical rivers around the world." This is the first reported sighting of a bull shark in Lake Benton and in Minensota in history. Now, scientists are going to investigate how a bull shark got this far north from the Gulf of Mexico all the way up to a lake in Minnesota.
