Researchers from the University of Evansville on Friday announced that a specimen of ancient river dolphin, Lissodelphis Ohioensis has been discovered alive in the Ohio River.
"So far, only one specimen has been confirmed" said head researcher Professsor Pulin Yoreleg. "But where there is one, there must be more".
The small (3 ft.) freshwater dolphin was found swimming near the surface in a daze after being overcome by one of the many methamphetamine slicks dotting the surface of the river near downtown Evansville.
"This species hasn't been observed alive previously, and was considered extinct. It was known only from a few jaw fragments discovered in river mud in 1920 by an aging prostitute who was digging potatoes". Professor Yoreleg said. "We are very excited about it's discovery".
