Plymouth - September 21, 2017.
A Pembroke woman was scammed out of receiving a Massachusetts State Police golf jacket and goodie bag intended for her friend in early September, according to a complaint filed this week.
Amy Joy, a forensic scientist with the State Police Crime Laboratory, filed the complaint with Plymouth Police about the alleged scam, which took place at a charity golf tournament at CrossWinds Golf Club on September 6. Registered participants in the annual Kotfila golf tournament were supposed to receive a black waterproof golf jacket along with a bag containing a drink koozie, as well as some golf related items, after paying the $125 per person entrance fee.
Joy stated in her complaint that David Coker, 49, of Dennis, organized the registration for their foursome, and collected all of the items prior to the arrival of the rest of the team. An unnamed female friend of Miss Joy could not make it to the tournament, and forfeited her entrance fee as a donation to the charity. She did not, however, receive the jacket and swag bag, to which she was entitled.
Joy's complaint states that Coker, when confronted, could not provide a logical or satisfactory explanation as to why she did not receive the items for her friend, and, as of this date, she still has not received the items. Joy said that she believes Coker swiped the items and gave them to his wife, instead of the rightful recipient.
Plymouth Police spokesman, Captain John W. Rogers, Jr., stated that he cannot comment on open investigations, but did say that the matter has also been referred to the Internal Affairs Section of the Massachusetts State Police. Coker is employed as a Trooper with the State Police and is assigned to the Disabled Persons Protection Commission.
Mr. Coker did not return calls to his home and office seeking comment.
