In a surprising announcement by state police playing Pokémon Go is now considered gang affiliation and the team's that players join when reaching level 5 in the game are considered to be gangs.
The statement goes on to explain that because these teams are identified by known gang colors (red, blue, yellow) and player use a "handle" rather than their real names, battle for gyms to claim an area for their team and often assemble in groups, this mirrors known gang behavior.
"These people dress in their team colors, sport their team logo on everything and engage in team rivalry just like any other gang".
In order to reduce the risk to public safety caused by this gang activity Pokémon Go players who roam around at night trespassing and disturbing the peace will be added to lists of known gang members and their affiliation noted, on first offenses a fine will be incurred, on a second offense possible jail time will occure, and on a third offense their Pokémon will be taken and euthanized for the good of public safety.
During the day Pokémon trainers will be limited to groups of no more than 6 people and their Pokédex and Buddy Pokémon will be subject to inspection by police and Animal Control officers.
Trainers who choose to appeal this decision may do so by applying for special permit at their local police departments the same way they would apply for a concealed weapon permit.
