Playoffs have not even begun, but sources close to the Los Angeles Dodgers have already shown their hands. Regardless of how the Dodgers finish this historical 2017 season, Giancarlo Stanton is most likely headed to the Dodgers in a trade involving top prospects. The prospects being mentioned are Alex Verdugo, Julio Urias, and a player to be named later. The Miami Marlins are looking to trim payroll under new ownership. Derek Jeter, although a minority owner, wants to build the Marlins through the farm system, much the way the Yankees grew their dynasty during his tenure with the Yankees.
This news circulating amongst MLB general managers is being met with angst as the Dodgers seem to be unfairly flexing financial muscles to position themselves for years to come. Furthermore, rumors abound that the Dodgers contingency that went to Japan to observe Shohei Otani's recent outing are meeting with Scott Boras. Although the Dodgers have limited funds to sign international players due to their recent international acquisitions, Otani has opted to enter the international draft a year early and forego a higher signing bonus.
