Jon Jones has been temporarily suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission as a result of a positive drug test administered by USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) ahead of his previously scheduled bout at UFC 214. Jones tested positive in 2016 ahead of his anticipated return at UFC 200.
The Nevada Commission voted unanimously on Tuesday to suspend Jones pending a full hearing at a later date, most likely in late summer 2017. Sources close to the UFC say that Jones tested positive for allegedly for a Letrozole metabolite, classified as an Aromatase inhibitor, another banned substance, Sildenafil, more widely known as Viagra. Aromatase inhibitors are also classified as estrogen blockers, typically used for breast cancer patients.
Both drugs are listed on the WADA banned substances list as "hormone and metabolic modulators" and are not allowed at any time in or out of competition.
The UFC is currently looking for a replacement fighter to replace Jones. Sources close to the matter say they are currently in talks with Illir Latifi. We reached out to Latifi's camp who said, "We are ready to fight whenever." The UFC is also in talks, according to sources, with Artem Lobov as a possible replacement, however, the UFC president Dana White when asked to comment called it"ridiculous" - "Artem Lobov is too good for D.C., we're currently seeing if Mighty Mouse is available."
