It recent news from Austin legislators have approved the legalization of recreational Marijuana. It's not much of a surprise since in 2014 medical marijuana was approved in both Texas and Louisiana with the loophole of not setting up the guidelines for anyone to obtain the medicine in Marijuana State Stores. After much observation of the other states that have passed this legislation lawmakers are convinced that the revenue collected from the state supported sale of marijuana will enhance the income of the states in 100's of million dollars. This cash flow does not include the profit of the businesses selling the product. Getting the credentials to sale marijuana will cause 1000's of Texas and Louisiana residents to become Marijuana Millionaires.
The states that have these laws in place have seen a lower crime rate and some states are releasing all offenders from prison that are there because of a marijuana conviction. Also, states have cleared the criminal history of marijuana convictions so these people will have a better chance of employment and not be stigmatized by other limitations that are associated with convicted felons keeping them from equal opportunities. It also is saving states money by lowering the prison population and the cost of prosecution.
Many problems with addiction to prescription pain killers will be reduced because of one of the many medical uses of marijuana is pain relief. Instead of the gloom and doom predictions by advocates of the 'War on Drugs' the research shows less domestic violence, less reported crimes of violence plus less drunk driving which kills. These laws are age restricted to adults 21 and older with laws against driving while under the influence of marijuana. There is also a rise in the sale of food due to the side effect of hunger.
There is still some controversy among residents of each state but a majority of voters are in agreement with the new laws. To the surprise of many the local and state police are in agreement with the new laws because they can now concentrate on apprehending the real criminals.
