Rumors that the Trump Holdings Corporation, which handles the real estate arm of the Trump Organization, has been looking to procure land in the arctic have been verified.
A top executive with the corporation (speaking on conditions of anonymity until the deal has been completed) has confirmed that they are in the final stage of negotiations with a major land owner in Canada's arctic. The deal would see the Trump Corporation acquire title to approximately 5350 hectares of land in the Mackenzie Delta in exchange for a 7.8 share of trumps Canadian assets. This would include Trump International Hotel & Tower in Vancouver and the lucrative Trump International Hotel & Tower in Toronto. A deal which could bring the land owner several million dollars annually.
The corporation is looking to develop the land into an Eco-safaris type resort which will cater mostly to wealthy clients from Asia.
The executive explained that the location was chosen for a number of reasons. One is its northern latitude makes for great aurora borealis viewing. It also sits on a navigable water way which would allow for yachts of all sizes to moor (Which is especially important as global warming opens up the arctic to longer sailing seasons). And for its proximity to the Richardson Mountains which would see the development of “several smaller, quainter, ski resorts”.
And because there is a small hamlet of approximately 650 people nearby, its airstrip and infrastructure would be utilized to assist in the initial construction phase. It may also serve as a cheap labor pool for service workers in the future
Attempts to interview the only large land owner in the region have been unsuccessful. However an individual with the Gwich’in Tribal Council has stated (under condition of anonymity) that no announcement will be made until a deal is finalized.
