A well-known tradition for Defiance, OH has come to an end, as city council members met today and have decided to discontinue it's annual ribfest. This year would have been the 9th year for the festival; which features the area's best ribs for sale, along with judging, live music, and entertainment. Councilman Jared Pierce, reported that the decision was something that has been discussed over the past year and was hard to come to, but was decided upon due to the festival's declining vendor registry, increased public intoxication and crime rate, motor vehicle accidents due city traffic detours, and litterbug issue. The rib fest was held, in previous years (2008-2016), on the last Saturday in September.
The Defiance Development & Visitors' Bureau suggests that tourists should stop in for the 2017-2018 events schedule to see what else the city has to offer instead of greasy pork and alcoholic beverages.
