Ms. Dana Reinstein, a geology major at SUNY Fredonia: class of 2017 has been chosen to represent the United States on the first manned space flight to Mars in 2023. She will attend astronaut training for 4 years at Nasa and then live aboard the International Space Station to prepare for her journey. The crew will consist of eight individuals, four males and four females from various countries. Also aboard will be a variety of small animals, including dogs, cats, birds and reptiles. The launch is scheduled for July 20th 2023 on the 24th anniversary of the first moon landing. The return date is July 4th 2028. The total cost for the mission is estimated at $ 812,243,917,612,519,322,040,609.11. When asked how she felt about being chosen Dana, who is also a fan of astronomy, replied It's a BIG rock!
