Local chicken farmers and city residents are going head to head over a newly proposed city code that would prevent chicken transport trucks from driving through the city proper. The idea was first floated as a joke before the town council in January of 2017 when a city council man was delayed from attending the January council meeting by a slow moving and "rather odorous" chicken transport truck. The motion however is no longer a joke as residential complaints have stacked. The high temperatures of summer combined with longer traffic waits due to tourist congestion have created a situation for people forced to drive the same routes as regularly taken by "the fowl transport". While the situation has its humor it is being taken seriously with regard to the growing number of complaints paired with legitimate concern that Harrison as a drive through hub for Ozark touristy will be affected by the negative image and odor these trucks put off. Farmers in the area are flummoxed over the rising resentment and say that driving around instead of through would raise transport rates on the local chicken farms beyond what the fowl are worth. A representative for local farmers attributed this new concern to the "snowflaking of this current generation." For now the motion to enact an ordinance has been delayed, probably behind a chicken truck, and the matter will be discussed at the next town council meeting, held the fourth Thursday of every month and open to the public. Is this a situation most fowl or a gen-next complaint that bears no yolk?
