With an overstock of Atlantic Salmon in several hatcheries around the State. The DNR is Planning on planting some 15,000 Smolt, Atlantic Salmon in the AuSable river, east of Grayling. Due to an overwhelming cry for bigger fish, the DNR said, these fish will reach 5- 15 lbs in just a few years, and even larger thru the 5 year plan to research and study how well they do. Now with the dams removed up river and colder water temps, now is a good time. The Atlantics should also help void the river of more undesirable species like chubs and suckers, as well as small brood brook trout, muddlers, and other invasives that trout do not eat or are unable to digest. Turning the upper AuSable into a destination for Trophy anglers, and help Boom the economical impact in the area, SeyMore Inda Future says its a win win for everyone. Justin Thime, fisheries biologist believes the Atlantics will bod well in the Spring bed regions once occupied by a strain of land locked rainbows, after the consumers dams were established.
