In the late evening hours of July 13th, several explosions destroyed Ukrainian radar stations near Donetsk, Ukraine. These are believed to have been coordinated attacks emanating from the air. According to the commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Serhiy Drozdov: "At 22:32 hours time, several contacts were picked up on our radar systems in the Operation Command East region. These were immediately identified as Russian Su-24 aircraft. The aircraft were warned several times to turn back, but did not respond to our calls. One of these aircraft was shot down, but several of our radar stations were lossed." Officials in Kiev are fearful that this latest provocation prefaces a much larger air campaign in the east of the country. President Poroshenko made an urgent call to NATO and his western colleagues: "This unprovoked attack is the beginning of something big coming from Russia. Ukraine and the world need to stand against Putin, who is most certainly behind these bombings." The Kremlin has not responded to requests for remarks.
