The State of Iowa's Board of Education voted 11-1 today to ban all items bearing any symbols related to the Green Bay Packers from schools in the State.
"This State has a long history of supporting Illinois teams, " said Board member Phillip Larkin, " and the increased prevalence of Wisconsin-based teams is caused a rift in the school system. By making this change, we hope to limit the conflicts on our school grounds, giving all kids the opportunity to agree on one particular team - in this case, the Bears - rather than having arguments that have no way to resolve."
The lone "no" vote was cast by an unnamed Board member, who was immediately removed from the committee. Said Larkin, "Just like on our school grounds, this former committee member is just trying to start an argument, so we got rid of him immediately."
A further vote, on whether or not to ban Wisconsin cheese from all school lunches, was postponed until a future meeting.
