Lake Forest Park - A couple was enjoying a nice row through Lake Washington Thursday morning when their boat was bumped by a bull shark first spotted early yesterday. Dr. Brian Shumpert, a marine biologist at the University of Washington says "Bumping like this is aggression. Bull sharks are looking for mates now, and the famales have a sort of red sheen along their ventral surface. The red of the boat probably got this guy excited." Luckily, once the randy shark recognized the boat wasn't a potential mate, it swam away towards towards murky water. The boaters, Bill and Victoria Shephard of nearby Kenmore, were shaken, but it won't stop them from coming back. "This part of the lakes is [sic] beautiful. We'll be coming back, but hopefully they catch this shark soon, there's swimmers here." Local officials have considered closing the area for swimming, but are holding off for now to see if chumming near the Kenmore industrial zone might drive the animal into shark traps set late yesterday.
