One resident of Fort Wayne, IN has been confirmed to have contracted the Plague virus. The victim, whose ID had not been released, is in the hospital under quarantine procedure in critical condition. The Plague virus (also known as bubonic plague) is an extremely virulent illness spread by fleas carrying the bacterium yersinia pestis. It is most infamously known to have swept Europe and Asia in the 14th century, killing 25-60 of the population. The Allen County Department of health is urging residents to remain calm as the extent of the outbreak is unknown, although three more from the same area as the victim are also under isolation for exhibiting flu-like symptoms.
