Kentucky Fish and Wildlife were called to Van Buren boat ramp to the report of an angler catching a shark. Kentucky Fish and Wildlife officer Blaine Thompson arrived to the boat ramp and confirmed the shark to be a female 5 1/2 foot bull shark. Dr. Sandy Kemp from the University of Kentucky arrived attempting to catch the shark, as it was reported earlier this week. This is a monumental occurrence as bull sharks have never been caught this deep in the intracontinental waterways of the United States. Bull sharks are able to store salt in their kidneys and use it as they need. Sharks prefer to attack in less than three feet of water. Watch your children swimming off the shoreline with extra caution as the Fourth of July festivities will make it prime hunting for sharks. Please if you see any sharks don't attempt to catch. Call your local Fish and Wildlife office and report. Thanks for your cooperation and have a safe holiday weekend.
