ServiceNow Founder Frederic Luddy Takes on Role at Rival HP

(Palo Alto, CA) - Frederic Luddy, the founder and former Chief Product Officer at Santa Clara-based technology company ServiceNow (NYSE: NOW), has accepted a new position at rival software company Hewlett-Packard Enterprise (NYSE: HPE), according to company sources.

Luddy founded ServiceNow in 2006, and acted as the company's CEO from its inception until 2012, when he stepped down to allow a more experienced CEO, Frank Slootman, take over. ServiceNow has built a substantial business helping corporate IT departments provide service to employees in structured, managed, trackable form. Slootman was previously CEO of Data Domain, a pioneer in disk-based backup storage. After a successful IPO, Data Domain was acquired by EMC for $2.4 billion.

Luddy's move to HPE is surprising, as he recently quitely stepped down from his position as CPO but remained on the company's Board of Directors.

"This is a huge coup for HP," the insider said. "Getting the brains behind the competitor may just give them the edge in a competition that up until now, they've been losing."

Recently, HPE General Manager Chris Hsu said of the company's current direction,"We are implementing a new product segmentation strategy that will ensure we are putting the right resources behind the highest value opportunities while continuing to invest in the mission-critical applications that our customers rely on."

"If Luddy is part of that new strategy," the insider said, "it's a gamechanger."

Calls for comment to both ServiceNow and Hewlett-Packard were not returned.
