WE WERE CONTACTED by some local schools to inform you that any schools with teachers that are members of the TUI will be closing this Monday (7th) for strike action. Schools around Ireland will be affected on several dates this year due to disagreements within the group and with the goverment. Some local schools are affected such as St. Eunan's College, the Royal and Prior of Raphoe, Loreto Secondary School Milford and Errigal College, among others who are yet to confirm they are closing. There has been doubt and confusion among parents who have received no notification of the temporary closure as the schools taking part in the strike are currently holding meetings across the country in hotels, halls, and offices and are presumed not to be returning to school buildings to contact parents regarding closures. It is instead hoped that news of these closures will spread in time for Monday morning. Parents of secondary school children are quite apparently not pleased with how the news of the strikes were broken, with one commenting "For God's sake!! It's an absolute flippin disgrace how we found out about the strikes in the schools! How was I supposed to know if my 15 year old was tellin the truth when he said schools wer closed!"[sic] Another parent commented, "These schools that are striking are ridiculous, aren't they getting payed enough already??" A representative for a local school affected has said, "The principals of these schools were not those who decided to close, our teachers made the decision amongst themselves to strike as they found they were entitled to more pay," Again, some of the local schools confirmed to be closing are: St. Eunan's College Letterkenny, Errigal College Letterkenny, the Royal and Prior Raphoe and Loreto Secondary School Milford. We recommend you share this article to help inform families, and if your school is not included in this list, we advise you to find out its status for Monday.
