BBC Four will be dedicating a whole evening to the classic sounds of early Country Music, with documentaries telling the stories of Hillbilly greats Hank Williams, Roy Acuff and Bob Wills, as well as the Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line.
Each of the documentaries feature unseen interview and concert footage, recently rediscovered after being archived for more than 60 years.
Also included in the programming is a 60 minute show focusing on the recent resurgence of interest in vintage Country and Western Swing music, which includes performances by American artists Dale Watson, Wayne Hancock and Hot Club Of Cowtown, along with interviews with prominent UK figures involved in the revival. Concert promoter Colin Silcocks says of the revival; "The new interest in vintage Country and Hillbilly music is incredible, and UK artists such as The Doel Brothers and Glenn Doran's Prarie Echoes are every bit a match for their American counterparts.
The BBC Four "Hillbilly Heroes" evening is on Sunday 18th December from 8.00pm.
