In a bid to jumpstart the country's nascent tourism industry, The Republic of Ireland's Taoiseach (prime minister) Enda Kenny signed a bill into law declaring November 12 "National Red Panties Day".
The Taoiseach's spokesperson stated that "all the people of Ireland are encouraged to participate in this day of festivities. "
As the news spread, Victoria Secret's stock jumped 34 points in after hours trading.
Not all reaction was positive however. Brazilian ambassador Jose Aldo stated "It took thirteen seconds for Ireland to knock out all its gains in relations with the people of Brazil. As is our custom, we shall pull out of our upcoming competitions with Ireland. "
