NEW YORK CITY -- The MTA is expected to go ahead with plans to raise fares and tolls next year, according to the 2017 preliminary budget and four-year financial plan released Thursday on October 27th.
The transit agency will release the exact amount of the increases -- believed to be 5 percent -- in the fall, and then hold a round of public hearings. But it is expected that the base price of a single subway or bus ride would to jump to $10.00. Veronique Hakim quoted on Thursday, "The city transit is too damn good for a simple $2.75 fare". New Yorkers won't be happy about this one.
